History & Heritage
The sacred Char Dham circuit was established in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya, the great philosopher-saint who revived Hinduism across India. He constructed the Badrinath temple and established a monastery (Jyotirmath) nearby, and is believed to have entered samadhi at Kedarnath. Yamunotri and Gangotri represent the sources of India's two most sacred rivers, which have been places of meditation for sages since Vedic times. The Kedarnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is believed to have been originally constructed by the Pandavas and later rebuilt by Adi Shankaracharya using massive stone blocks.

Barkot to Uttarkashi
